Information We Collect
When you contact us, request a consultation, or engage our services, we may collect information you provide directly. This may include your name, email address, and phone number; the address and details of the property concerned; your role in relation to the property, such as owner, managing agent, board member, or attorney; documents you share with us, including inspection reports, filings, correspondence, and photographs; and billing and contact details for invoicing.
1. How We Protect Your Information
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information you share with us against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. Property records, photographs, and filing documents are treated as confidential to the engagement. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information you provide to respond to inquiries, review property and compliance records, prepare condition summaries and documentation, coordinate access and repair work, communicate with you and with parties you authorize, and issue invoices. We do not sell your information. We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, and any revised version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
3. Sharing and Disclosure
We share information only where it is necessary to perform the work you have engaged us for, or where we are required to do so. This may include sharing with engineers, architects, contractors, and other professionals working on your property, and with counsel, insurers, or agencies where you have directed us to do so or where disclosure is required by law. We do not sell or rent your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Intellectual Property
The content of this website, including text, photographs, graphics, and layout, is the property of Exterior.nyc and ArkCo Corp. unless otherwise indicated, and may not be reproduced or redistributed without permission. Documents and photographs you provide to us remain yours; reports and summaries we prepare are provided for your use in connection with the engagement.
5. Data Retention
We retain project records, photographs, and documentation for as long as needed to provide our services, to support the compliance history of the property, and to meet legal, insurance, and recordkeeping obligations. Because exterior compliance records may be requested years later during refinancing, sale, litigation, or a subsequent inspection cycle, retention periods for project documentation are typically long. If you would like to know what we hold in relation to a particular property, contact us at info@exterior.nyc.
FAQ
Welcome to our Home Upgrade Journal, where we share simple tips and reliable advice.
FISP applies to buildings greater than six stories, and reports must be filed by a Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector within the building's assigned cycle and subcycle. Buildings frequently arrive at a new cycle carrying unresolved conditions from the previous one, which is where most cost and delay comes from.
An unsafe condition carries immediate obligations for public protection, which usually means a sidewalk shed or netting, followed by stabilization and repair. The condition remains on the record until the repair is complete and the required documentation has been filed.
Shed duration is driven by the repair schedule rather than the permit alone, and permit periods keep running whether or not work is progressing. Coordinating access and repairs early is usually what shortens the time a shed stays in place.
Buildings fronting a public right-of-way are subject to an annual parapet observation, with written records retained by ownership. The absence of a retained record can become an issue during an inspection, a claim, or a sale, even where the parapet itself is sound.
Our reviews are advisory, prepared to help ownership and counsel understand apparent conditions and organize next steps. Inspections, report classifications, and filings under FISP must be performed and submitted by a Qualified Exterior Wall Inspector, and we coordinate with the licensed professionals who carry those responsibilities.
